Did you know that, by some estimates, we experience a major life change every 12–18 months? Change is inevitable, but the consistent message throughout Scripture is that we can trust God in the process. Whether it’s job loss, housing changes, kids growing up too fast, curveballs, or unexpected expenses, we need not worry. He is with us, and His wisdom is always available to us.
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
Do we believe that promise? Do we fully trust Him in the unknown? Sometimes, in the midst of our panic, it’s hard to remember how to connect with the God who loves us. Here are some practical things that help me:
Read (or listen to) Scripture—whatever version speaks to you best.
Pray—share all your thoughts, fears, and expectations with God. Hold nothing back.
Journal—track your progress and note how God answers in even the smallest ways.
Look for things to be grateful for.
Talk to a trusted believing friend—someone who will tenderly hold your heart.
Be okay with waiting on God. Find rest. Seek peace. Be still.
Finally, listen to great worship music!
If you’re feeling discouraged because some of your intentions have already slipped, don’t be! There’s still time. Every day is a chance to start again. Redraw the lines. Make a new list. Give yourself permission for a New Year do-over.
And if you’re on target—AWESOME! Keep going! You’ve got this!
